One of the best things about living in NOLA is that there's always something going on and things to do. Among my favorite events that come to the city are the concerts that often route their tours through here. Recent announcements and venue re-openings have the winter and spring concert calendars heating up.
In the past year, we have seen the opening of the Civic Theatre, the re-opening of the Saenger Theatre, and the re-opening of the New Orleans Arena. The two former venues had been closed for years, and are great mid-sized theatres for smaller intimate performances. In contrast, the arena went through renovations over the summer, and just reopened to play host to multiple large scale concerts and NBA games.
This week, announcements of two major acts coming to the New Orleans Arena have already taken place. Miley Cyrus and her tongue will take over the venue on March 18, 2014. She'll show how twerking is actually just the improper way to do a squat (lift from your knees, not your back), and more than likely not leave the city after she finds her calling on Bourbon Street.
Also coming to the Crescent City in August of 2014 will be Justin Timberlake. He'll reopen the Arena after its second round of renovations next summer. He debuted the 20/20 Experience in New Orleans at the 2013 Super Bowl, and will appropriately bring the full tour back around for more locals to experience (bitter, much?). This fromer boy-bander isn't the last major concert announcement to be made this month, as I have it on good authority that another big get is on the horizon. Any guesses?
My week is going to wrap up on Friday night with the Rihanna concert at the New Orleans Arena, thus giving me this "throwback classic" from RiRi for a TUNESday selection. Not wanting to pay homage to her famous relationship-gone-bad, I'm highlighting the video of the song being performed on Glee. If you want to see the full bleach blond recap, check it out HERE.
