Tourists will take over the CBD starting Thursday as NBA All Star Weekend converges on New Orleans; however, locals know that the real charm of NOLA lies beyond the French Quarter. Just past the end of Bourbon Street sits the Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods, home to the best music venues, artists, brunch spots, and now the newest race on the Big Easy's running scene ... the 504K!
The inaugural 504K event is a fun run through the eclectic residential neighborhood, and at 5.04 kilometers, it is deemed an official training run for the Crescent City Classic 10K in April.
Even more important than the miles logged by runners during the 504K is the cause the race supports. Youth Run NOLA will benefit from funds raised by registration fees, and in turn the organization will target teens & pre-teens who show an interest in the sport of running. YRNOLA staff and volunteers aid in proper training techniques and leading a healthy lifestyle. These program participants hail from 19 area public schools, and run races throughout the year, including some who finish the Rock 'n' Roll New Orleans Half Marathon.
More than 800 people are currently registered for the 504K this Saturday morning, February 15th, with registration still open HERE.
More details on the race are available in a featured article from The New Orleans Advocate HERE.
